The Ideal Response To "What Are Your Weaknesses & Strengths"

The named interview question, which is somewhat common, is difficult to answer. This is a question that will inevitably come up in an interview. Furthermore, you've been hearing this question and possible responses for a long time. Many rules of thumb, in my opinion, are inaccurate and misleading. What is appropriate for one person may not be suited for another.

 

Not to suggest that there aren't any regulations that can be followed; there are. Your answer to this question is the end consequence of your interview performance. In comparison to other common interview questions, this one requires you to carefully select your medicine. Here are some interview suggestions to consider before attending one.

 

  • What are your strongest points?

 

Most people take this interview question for granted because it comes easy to them, and it is this mindset that needs to alter. Before answering the tough question, keep the following points in mind.

 

1. Assess your skills and match them to the job you're applying for.

 

2. Research and analyse the company's and the function for which you are being interviewed.

 

3. Identify the essential job-related variables and then connect your job-related strengths throughout the interview.

 

 

Example: An interview for a position that needs management and teamwork? (Profile of Sales)

 

Answer: I am good at problem solving and enjoy approaching an issue from every possible perspective. I appreciate instances in which others approach me for advice and suggestions.

 

My previous employer challenged us to find strategies to enhance our output without sacrificing precision. I was able to not only shorten the process but also surpass our previous goal by three days with a higher product by thoroughly examining what each department was doing and identifying ways to work together more efficiently."

 

  • How to Answer the Interview Question - What are your Weaknesses?

 

To answer this question, keep in mind that you must explain how your deficiencies are not important and necessary for a business. Declare a flaw that isn't based on deep insight. Here are some things to keep in mind before answering the tough question.

 

1. Maintain a good attitude toward the firm and explain any deficiencies that have nothing to do with the job requirements or the company for which you are being interviewed.

 

2. Keep it simple. Superlatives like "weakest," "worst," and "largest" denote the most significant degree of whatever you're describing.

 

3. Always identify one weakness that will not disqualify you from the position and provide instances of how you plan to address it. Make it clear that you are learning from your mistakes.

 

4. Avoid using clichéd methods of portraying strength as a weakness, such as claiming to be a workaholic or a perfectionist. It is best to identify a genuine weakness of moderate size.

 

Example 1: An interview for a position that necessitates good communication abilities.

 

Answer: If I had to respond, I would reply, "I'm lousy at arithmetic." I used to enjoy all subjects, but math is my Achilles' heel.

 

Math has nothing to do with my communication skills here, and that's also an honest answer.

 

Example 2: An interview for a position that needs management and teamwork? (Profile of Sales)

 

Answer: One of my main flaws is that I can't keep silent. I have a tendency to chat and become involved in my environment, which some people dislike.

 

If I have any good ideas or proposals, I quickly contact my superiors without contemplating the circumstances.

 

This weakness, however, has nothing to do with the position. The interviewer, on the other hand, can connect it to a specific term by assessing that you are a people person who is eventually fit for the job role.

 

Strengths and weaknesses are situational and inextricably linked. Do not include this question in your resume format, and instead try to assess how to respond to it based on your talents and requirements.
